Assignment – Define Cliche and Metaphor

A cliche is something that is overused, to the point where the original reference and importance has been lost.  Take this spoof on a Shepard poster for example.  The idea really has been beat to death.  Take the image, manipulate it, find a tricky word that starts with “H’ in place of Hope.

A metaphor simply represents something else.  I believe that Marcel Duchamp started the postmodernism movement.  The urinal (and ready-made, for that matter) was a critique what determines whether something is art.  Is it the individual?  Is it the institution?
